Alabama Power Company announced its third rate increase of 2022 yesterday.
A company spokesperson said that beginning in January, the average residential customer will pay about $6.81 more.“Our customers expect us to deliver reliable and resilient energy 24/7, 365 days a year. In order to best serve our customers, we must prepare for the future,” Alabama Power media relations manager Alyson Tucker said via email.
“As a result, customers will see an adjustment on January 2023 bills driven primarily by compliance with federal requirements, as well as unprecedented inflation and economic conditions. These federal mandates and regulations, with which the company and utilities across the country must comply, continue to put pressure on customer costs.
That means the average residential customer will pay about $22.81 more per month for electricity in 2023 than they did at the beginning of this year. Tucker said Alabama Power has programs in place to assist customers who may struggle to pay their electric bills, including
Seems I remember reading that our power costs are above those in Georgia. AL Power has a lot of political influence and is a monopoly so these increases should be examined.

I have no problem with rate increase as Alabama Power has in past given year end refunds due to fuel savings for that year. What goes round comes around.
