Grant Shapps has pushed back against reported proposals to increase the number of onshore windfarms as the government prepares to unveil its energy security strategy next week

The government’s long awaited energy strategy has the potential to kill two birds with one stone.

Firstly, there’s the money - with tensions over the cost of building nuclear reactors and worries over the tax black hole that a move to electric vehicles will leave.A mooted move towards more onshore wind appears to have been stopped in its tracks amid cabinet disagreements and worries about the electoral impact of possibly plonking turbines on the green and pleasant lands of Tory-held seats.

Shadow business secretary Jonathan Reynolds told Sky News' Ridge on Sunday programme that the Labour party supports more investment in nuclear energy to help"I think the danger is that, frankly the individual commissioning decisions on nuclear reactors all depend on the price you can achieve - they can be very expensive if you haven't been able to get the right deal and the right private sector partners to do that.

My daughter works on the Hinckley C which comes online next year but only supplies 6 million homes and businesses I do not mind wind farms live near Salisbury Plain you cannot get on it unles in a tank so stick them there or stock up on candles.

with large party donations from the guy who's likely to win any off shore turbine business, this is likely why along with NIMBY s not wanting the view from their country pile obscured!

Energy for the people not for profit.

Tories will unveil mega plans, tax cuts and breaks, lowering fuel duty further and more crap just before election in the hope you are gullible enough to fall for it. Just remember what they've done to this country when you vote

That's because they are not truly looking for free energy sources, only where they can hit the consumer in the pockets

12 years in power they've done fuck all despite banging on every year about renewable clean air energy. Now we're paying the price for their squandered opportunities to get in right this last decade. Wouldn't trust them to put batteries in my torch let alone install windfarms

BorisJohnson 10DowningStreet Weak government, weak governance, weak strategy, bleak future.

Drop the green levy on fuels then we’ll really see a difference to peoples circumstances! The the green industry stand on its own feet!

Get the nuclear going 😇we have to be independent, we've been blinkered, ho tell India, Africa and Pakistan to save the world 🌎

Of course he has. He is a clueless pawn in a clueless government. Creating a viable energy policy is well beyond the lot of them. They haven't managed it in the past and they won't now.

These politicians haven’t got a clue about living in the real world in their stolen a living salary g £90k plus most probably double that in expense claims. I’d like to see how they’d do on a £1000 a month?

The only way to have energy security is to have energy generation and distribution in the public/ state sector - a privatised industry can, will and is already selling energy generated in UK to the EU - who we have to compete with on price to buy it.

According to the government’s own research, there’s more public support for onshore wind than nuclear or fracking

One would imagine that the only reason grantshapps is against onshore wind is because he doesn't have a donor involved or is not a shareholder in a company that develops it.

U.K. Government prefer unsustainable Nuclear all the way! 🤬

Not enough 🪙 in it for the Tories

Because just like Patel, he's on the take from the energy companies.
