SSE Airtricity has announced a 10% cut to its gas and electricity prices, which will take effect from 1 July and benefit more than 300,000 customers in Ireland.
This is the third SSE Airtricity price cut in 12 months having previously announced a 12.8% reduction in electricity, 11.5% drop in gas prices in February, and a 12% cut last September. This is the first announcement of a price cut to come from one of the larger energy providers in several months, following a series of reductions by all suppliers earlier in the year. Experts say the move by SSE Airtricity could provoke similar reactions from competitors.
"This is obviously welcome news and comes at a time when many households are still struggling with cost-of-living pressures and high energy costs," said Daragh Cassidy, head of communications at price comparison website, Bonkers.ie.
