Electronics millionaire Dick Smith is set to donate his $300 energy bill rebate from the Albanese Government to a major not-for-profit, as Australian rich listers rally behind NSW’s 3.3 million households slugged with higher power bills.
Magnate Dick Smith, founder of the electronics giant, announced he would hand over his $300 to the Salvation Army as he denounced the energy bill rebate as “completely wrong”. It will do little to ease the cost-of-living pressures for ordinary Australians. Yet according to analysis of the Default Market Offer, a typical household bill of about 6800kWh in 2021 was $2014 for Endeavour customers but just three years later the figure has soared to $2766, an increase of $752. Speaking to Sky News Australia host Kieran Gilbert on Tuesday, Mr Chalmers would not admit Labor was on track to breach its 2025 promise, insisting he was focused on providing energy bill relief to all “here and now” in 2024.
