It seems like electric vehicles are making the wagon body style more popular than ever, and China’s Nio is the latest automaker joining the party, with the ET5 Touring. Starting with the svelte ET5 sedan, the automaker has straightened out its roofline to add more interior space and functionality for active owners.

Not particularly surprising from a design standpoint , the raised roof offers 15.8 cubic feet of trunk space behind the rear seats, and a further 1.5 cubic feet of under-floor storage. With the rear seats folded, the ET5 Touring offers up 46 cubic feet of storage space with a fully flat load space, which is about 12 cubic feet less than the. It also comes with a trunk lip that’s just 27.5-inches from the ground, in addition to magnetic straps designed to hold grocery bags, nets to keep your parcels from sliding around, and even a pair of hooks which Nio suggests could be useful for hanging wetsuits.Meanwhile, rear seat passengers get another 0.

The longer roof also means that Nio could fit more sunroof onto the ET5 Touring. The rooftop window is now 4.3 feet long, and offers an auto dimming option. It’s treated to block up to 99.99 percent of UV rays, and has 80 percent isolation from heat.Despite the added bodywork and glass, the ET5 Touring still has perfect 50:50 weight distribution for impressive performance.

Inside, it gets a familiar suite of technology, including a 10.2-inch HDR digital instrument cluster, and a 12.8-inch AMOLED infotainment screen. It is also offered with a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos Certified 23-speaker sound system, 14-way adjustable, massaging seats, and more.. The automaker only offers fixed or flexible leases in Europe, but has not yet shared pricing. In China, prices for the wagon will start at 220,000 Yuan for owners who opt for the Battery as a Service option.
