The campy musical comedy is based on the 1980 movie set to a score by the Electric Light Orchestra

How bad was the 1980 film “Xanadu”? So bad that it inspired the creation of the Golden Raspberry or Razzie Awards, which annually “honor” the worst movies of the year. So who could have foreseen a smash Broadway musical adaptation a quarter-century later?

“Xanadu” the stage musical opened on Broadway in May 2007 under the direction of Christopher Ashley, who a few months later would officially take the reins as artistic director of La Jolla Playhouse. “Xanadu” launched its first national tour the following year at the Playhouse.That’s where Krista Feallock, who stars as the Greek muse Clio in San Diego Musical Theatre’s new production of “Xanadu,” first saw the show.
