KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Scooter company Beam today said none of its electric vehicles were responsible for a fire that broke outside the Suria KLCC shopping centre here yesterday.“We are relieved that no passers-by were harmed in the incident, and we would like to update that upon investigation by the relevant authorities, our vehicles were not the cause of the fire,” it said in a statement.
Beam said its electric scooters use aircraft-grade aluminium, the highest grade of body hardware to ensure durability, adding that the batteries within the vehicles follow international safety certification. A spokesman for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre said in a statement yesterday that four electric scooters and nine out of 13 motorcycles were destroyed in the fire that was brought under control at about 4pm.
