The Budget's energy credits should have been targeted to those with a genuine need for support instead of allocating funds to high-income households that were not affected by cost of living increases, according to a climate NGO

THE BUDGET’S ENERGY credits should have been targeted to those with a genuine need for support instead of allocating funds to high-income households that were not affected by cost of living increases, according to a climate NGO.

It warned that there is a “real danger that things will worsen in 2023″ as the value of credits and social welfare decrease with inflation, with “resulting deterioration in health”. “Instead, the message from government was that the state will step in to pay people’s bills when energy becomes more expensive.

There are “serious problems” with retrofitting and energy efficiency programmes, according to the report.

How about giving it to the people paying for it,not the scabby dole heads.

Higher tax higher credit. But in far left country higher tax less benefit

Everyone knew that already. A climate NGO hasn't a clue how difficult it is to implement targeted supports at very short notice, not to mind the actual cost of specifying exactly who receives any extra supports, setting criteria boundaries and difficulties with means testing.

How about targeting based on their net disposable income - any NGO studies done on comparing hardships experienced by families with same net disposable income but different means of accessing that same level of net disposable income. Just a thought 🤔

Based on disposable income, the results would not be what that NGO would want to see.

If anything, it seems lots of low income households have nice Canada Goose jackets to keep them warm and dont need the energy credit at all.

Ya, those people or households especially who own their house and don't have to pay rent or mortgage shouldn't have gotten the €200 electricity credit, more should have been given to low income and people on dole and all that

NGO’s don’t like equality

Patricryan11 NGOs as far as the eye can see in Ireland. Every article on government policies seems to have NGOs involved.

If implemented it wouldn’t be targeted enough. Those with high rents, mortgages or childcare would likely be excluded.

Climate NGO can't explain how global warming hasn't impacted energy poverty

Climate NGO 🙄 Whilst in an ideal world these credits could have been targeted it would have taken months to means test every account holder. This said Credit on one property per account holder could have been looked at albeit again it would have taken time.

What constitutes high income? Why are local authorities not fitting all state owned properties with solar panels for free.

Rich people pay more tax, it's thanks to them the government can do anything for the poor at all. ✌️

Bankruptcy = You will own nothing and be happy. Brought to you by the wef I agree with Ciara 💯 % - there is a huge cohort of people who simply can’t afford the debt burden that these projects require us to undertake. Where are the useful level of Grants ? Or even 0% interest 100% funded loans… 7.5% interest rates to take on debt isn’t practical
