Resources minister signals ‘very positive’ talks with gas corporations and suggested managing coal supply could relieve market pressures

of factors supercharging energy prices. A cold snap across much of Australia led to a surge in demand for heating, on top of international gas prices spiking due to the conflict in Ukraine, maintenance on some key local power stations, and even flooding of some coal mines leading to a shortfall in fuel.

Government sources said they believed greater collaboration between state and commonwealth governments would be a key factor in reducing prices, with the meeting to discuss a number of small changes at the margins which can be made in the short term. But with some of the factors in the current energy shortfall potentially persisting for months to come, King was still considering enacting the ADGSM trigger.

Sounds like they are going to let Europe freeze and leave the uranium in the ground. Can’t you do a deal with the failed Greek economy and use their shipping companies to cart the stuff over? Blame blame blame So the root cause of this mess is our Lib & Lab governments whom for 25 years couldn’t act in our sovereign economic & national interest. 5% of the cheapest energy we produce should stay in Australia to support development of a productive sustainable complex economy. Just fix it

What happened to that $2bn energy deal Scomo announced in 2020 to boost gas use? 🤷‍♀️ everything is going wrong. we were in the frying pan and now going into the fire...God help us

Politics of energy hits a perfect stormThis week’s emergency meeting of federal and state energy ministers will be big on the rhetoric of co-operation but short on practical answers for soaring energy prices and inadequate supplies, writes Jennifer Hewett. How long before failed ALP members get on the consultancy gravy train? What is wrong with Australian journalists that this huge issue has *suddenly* appeared out of nowhere? Do your jobs. Oh Jennifer. You clearly know far more than us. A new Gov't and you have already focused on rhetoric. Shame you didn't call out Scomo's hollow and baseless rhetoric years ago. You are truly remarkable. Opinion, again, sold as cogent journalism.
