James Cook University has successfully challenged the unfair dismissal case brought against the institution by former employee Professor Peter Ridd in what Liberal Senator Claire Chandler has described as “a very disappointing day for free speech". Mr Ridd was dismissed in 2018 after he publicly criticised his colleagues climate change science connected to research conducted on the Great Barrier Reef. In 2019, the professor challenged the dismissal and was awarded $1.
2 million in compensation, but the decision was reversed on Wednesday when the court decided in favour of James Cook University.
Any chance this could be referred to the High Court? Cannot think of any more important decision to be reviewed. I for one would contribute to the cost.

I understand going against the majority is always going to be difficult, but this is the wrong decision. Disagreement amongst scientists should not be stopped or silenced, it is how we learn. Some will now question climate change, which is the last thing we need.
