THE Energy Market Authority (EMA) has issued a call for proposals to develop and test-bed advanced electricity meters that can operate on Narrowband Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) wireless communications technology. Read more at The Business Times.

Advanced electricity meters will be progressively rolled out to Singapore households, under a national drive towards greater energy efficiency. When this is completed by 2024, more than 1.4 million consumer accounts - mainly households - will be able to use energy more efficiently.

"Advanced electricity meters can help consumers use energy in smarter ways and to do their part for a greener future," said EMA chief executive Ngiam Shih Chun. For instance, households with advanced electricity meters today can already access their half-hourly electricity usage using the SP Utilities app. This enables them to better understand their consumption patterns, take steps to manage their usage and be more energy-efficient, Mr Ngiam said.

The Singapore government's push for a unified IoT network to meet the diverse needs of sensors, robotics and IoT systems - such as connected appliances and smart home-security systems - is a key initiative under the Smart Nation Sensor Platform. This is a national project to adopt smart technologies to improve urban planning and bring about greater convenience to all Singaporeans.

The call for proposals closes at midnight on Sept 24, 2020. Details on the technical specifications and requirements can be found at www.ipi-singapore.org/technology-needs.For daily updates on weekdays and specially selected content for the weekend. Subscribe to
