The Tobacco and Vapes Bill also targets kid-friendly flavours like bubble gum and the packaging and display of other products like tobacco pouches, that can encourage children to smoke. New 'ghost children' register Local councils will now be forced to keep a register of 'ghost children' – children who slip through the tracks and have vanished from schools since COVID. Councils will be required to keep track of kids who aren't in school, while parents will be legally obliged to say if they are home-schooling their children. And schools, GPs, councils and Ofsted will be asked to improve how they work together.
Reform to the renting system This revised Renters Reform Bill will keep a ban on 'no-fault evictions' for tenants. Charities have previously called for an end to unfair evictions 'once and for all', and to 'make renting safe, secure and more affordable'. Apprenticeships In a bid to reform the Conservatives Apprenticeships Levy, Labour will create a flexible Growth and Skills Levy, in partnership with Skills England – to ensure qualifications offer value for money.Workers' rights This long-promised measure will ban exploitative zero-hour contracts for workers, giving them rights immediately when starting a new job, as well as cracking down on the controversial 'fire and rehire' practise.
