Canada’s auto sector wants the feds to change rebate and credit regulations for zero-emission vehicles to favour domestic manufacturers, arguing the current rules give producers in China and Vietnam an unfair leg-up in the country’s transition to net zero. But the federal Liberals say they’ve made significant investments in Canada’s electric vehicle manufacturing supply chain that will allow domestic producers to compete on the global stage, though they aren’t ruling out changes to their current suite of zero-emission vehicle incentives.
