Unlike traditional trains that rely on fossil fuels or electrical lines, China's new train boasts a hydrogen energy propulsion system.

has taken a significant step towards cleaner urban transportation with the successful test run of its first domestically developed hydrogen-powered train. The historic run took place on Thursday morning in Changchun, Jilin province. Developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles, the train achieved a speed of 160 kilometers per hour while fully loaded.

The train boasts an impressive driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometers, significantly reducing the need for refueling stops. Prior to the test run, the hydrogen power system underwent rigorous testing for durability, performance in extreme temperatures , vibration resistance, electromagnetic compatibility, and fire safety. This comprehensive testing ensures the safe and reliable operation of the train.

This successful trial operation signifies a major milestone for China’s rail transit industry, paving the way for wider adoption of hydrogen energy. It also contributes to achieving key technological independence and control in the development of high-end transportation equipment. Hopefully, the trend spreads to more countries where energy balance can be achieved in due time.
