Universities and colleges across Canada recognize clean energy and the environment as focal points for research. This is also true for strategic plans issued by nations around the world. Associations including those of the Southeast Asian Nations, the European Union, and the United Nations identify the importance of sustainability, and target funding for research in areas including clean and renewable energy.
We must rise above politics, and embrace a common good that is not determined by election cycles, but in generational terms. If our goal is to reduce the carbon footprint, we cannot state on the one hand that it is mission impossible, and on the other that we are ahead of our targets. Canadians are reasonable people. We understand that targets may not be reached despite our best efforts.
