Lower electric rates and a $24.15 monthly charge are coming to your SDG&E bill next year

The California Public Utilities Commission has made a big change in the way utility customers in California — including San Diego Gas & Electric — will pay their bills each month. After a unanimous vote by the commission Thursday, residential electric rates will be reduced by roughly 15 percent. But customers will also be charged a fixed fee, with most paying $24.15 per month. The change is scheduled go into effect for SDG&E customers in the fourth quarter of next year.

At a media briefing before Thursday's vote, the groups questioned the Flagstaff Research analysis and predicted bill impacts will be modest. Because of the reductions of about 15 percent in rates, customers 'living in hot climate zones and who are using more electricity more likely to be seeing $3 to $4 in monthly savings from this — or, at worst, no change at all,' said Sylvie Ashford, TURN's energy and climate policy analyst.
