Nersa has approved the protocols to implement load shedding up to Stage 16.The code of practice aims to prevent a national blackout, or grid collapse, which would happen through human error, says Vally Padayachee.
The aim of the code is to assist Eskom and municipalities which distribute electricity, as well as"the entire nation," to mitigate the impacts of higher stages of load shedding, and also to prevent a national blackout or total grid collapse, said Vally Padayachee, chairperson of the management committee for the NRS Association.
Padayachee also emphasised that load shedding was necessary to prevent the collapse of the grid or a blackout. … Higher stages of load shedding does not mean that the national electricity grid is closer to a 'blackout' or total collapse because the Eskom SO and Eskom and municipal distribution control centres have many other tools in their armour to prevent a 'blackout' and total grid collapse.
