Allergy season is getting longer and more intense due to climate change, which is particularly concerning for children. A significant number of children in the US already suffer from seasonal allergies and asthma, with pollen being a common trigger. If carbon pollution continues, the number of asthma-related emergency room visits is expected to rise. Children spend more time outdoors and have smaller airways, making them more vulnerable to allergens.

A study examined temperature trends in 197 US cities and found that the freeze-free growing season has increased in all climate regions. Reno, Nevada saw the greatest increase, while the Northwest had the highest overall increase of 26 days. This prolonged pollen season poses a threat to children's health
