The study analyzed data gathered from more than 99,000 buyers and lessees of 2024 model cars, showing EV drivers reported a rate of 226 problems per 100 vehicles in comparison to 180 problems per 100 gas-powered cars.

Controls and displays were the second-most common problem, with EV drivers reporting such concerns 30% more often than those of traditional combustion cars. “It is not surprising that the introduction of new technology has challenged manufacturers to maintain vehicle quality,” Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D.
