In footage of the speech, aired for the first time on Thursday by Sky News Australia's Sharri Markson, the outgoing CCA boss argues there is no"good or bad energy," with the most important factor being whether any source would help meet net zero emissions by 2050. "That also includes nuclear power. So if we want to get into a debate, it's important we throw nuclear into the mix and say Australia is going to have to come to grips with that issue and is going to have to decide whether or not it lifts that regulatory prohibition and allows the innovation and investment that's now happening, particularly more modular technology, to be applicable here.
They may also explain Mr Bowen's sudden decision to replace the CCA boss, with reports emerging this week that Mr King was the subject of an integrity probe following those remarks.
