The Titans shut down one of the most electric players in the game in their upset win over the Broncos last week. Here’s how they had success where so many teams have failed.

Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler did his bit for NSW last weekend by showing the Blues how to shut down Queensland ace Reece Walsh.

On no fewer than four occasions, the Titans centres and wingers raced out of the line to put a shot on Walsh. Cutting down Walsh’s time by getting centres and wingers to jam in is nothing new. Just as many teams have tried and failed to target Walsh, including on several occasions by the Dolphins in round six. Parramatta flyer Maika Sivo did likewise in round 10, only for Walsh to find an unmarked Deine Mariner to score.

“I actually don’t know how you stop him. I’m still trying to figure it out at training because he carves us up on the edges.
