However, the city will be looking for funding from the provincial and federal governments to cover most of that cost. "When you get into the heavier vehicles, the market is still evolving," he said. "So we're going to keep an eye on that."In a media release, the city said the electrification of its fleet is part of its net-zero strategy, and would eliminate 78,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with most of that coming as a result of electrifying the transit fleet. Buses would continue to have auxiliary diesel heaters for use in the winter, the city said.
