CPS Energy on Monday approved a $70 million, 10-year contract with Austin-based Oracle Corp. to help the city-owned utility overhaul its antiquated computing systems. Oracle, which has 3,200 other utility clients around the globe. will give CPS the ability to offer its customers more billing options, including how its rates are structured, and other improvements, executives said.
O’Mahoney said the utility’s aging software, which its current vendor will stop supporting by the end of 2027, has created a fractured system that often requires manual workarounds so employees can manage daily tasks. Beyond tiered billing, he said the new system will make it easier for crews to work through outages because of tools that auto-schedule and dispatch workers during power disruptions. It also also will make it easier for customers to pay their bills and manage their accounts online.
