The number of faulty smart meters in the UK has risen by a million to 3.98 million, according to data from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero . Some customers have been getting huge bills because of the faults, reports the BBC.
According to Smart Energy GB, a non-profit organisation, there are now almost 35 million smart meters in the UK and 88.6% are working as they should. Dianne Green, 75, from East Sussex, said her meter showed she was using £60 a month but her supplier wanted to put her direct debit up to £169 a month after she got a smart meter. She is now paying £95 a month and her bills say she is £600 in debt.
