Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce has hit out at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese after he indicated there would be further energy bill relief in the upcoming May budget.

Speaking at a small business summit on Thursday, the Prime Minister provided his biggest hint yet that the cost of living measure from last year's budget would be extended in partnership with the states and territories.

"How about you just fix it then show me that you've fixed it, rather than making another stupid promise that you can never keep."
