The study analyzed data gathered from more than 99,000 buyers and lessees of 2024 model cars, showing EV drivers reported a rate of 226 problems per 100 vehicles in comparison to 180 problems per 100 gas-powered cars.

The most commonly reported problem related to false or unnecessary warning messages, including vehicle’s driver assistance systems, reverse automatic emergency braking, and backseat warnings.

Controls and displays were the second-most common problem, with EV drivers reporting such concerns 30% more often than those of traditional combustion cars. “It is not surprising that the introduction of new technology has challenged manufacturers to maintain vehicle quality,” Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power, said. “However, the industry can take solace in the fact that some problem areas such as voice recognition and parking cameras are seen as less problematic now than they were a year ago.”one in five charging stations in the U.S.
