A Mayoral Committee Member for the city said that Cape Town was investigating the feasibility of deploying electric vehicles for several other purposes.
The electric bus tender was issued by the Cape Town Urban Mobility Directorate last month and will close in mid-July. Theresa Uys, the Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, said that the city was investigating the feasibility of electrifying other vehicles, including garbage trucks, light delivery vehicles and sedans and hatchbacks.
The electric vehicles were not used nearly as much as their internal combustion engine counterparts. In 2023, only one out of the four cars was used at all.
