, Norwegian Hydrogen established Vireon AS, a hydrogen fueling infrastructure brand with the aim of becoming the leading operator of hydrogen refueling stations for heavy duty transport in the Nordics. Through substantial investments in land transportation infrastructure, Vireon utilizing Norwegian Hydrogen technical expertise and grants experience seeks to expedite the adoption of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty transport in the entire Nordics.
Out of our many locations in Norway, six were recently awarded grants based on the expectation that they would be the first strategic spots to need heavy-duty hydrogen refueling stations. These stations form two main corridors, between the Capital of Norway, Oslo, and Trondheim in Mid-Norway and Stavanger on the west-coast.
In Finland, Vireon is building four strategically located stations in Tornio, Liminka, Jyväskylä, and the greater Helsinki area. Unlike Norway, Sweden and Denmark, these stations will be the first large-scale hydrogen stations in the country and will create a corridor from Helsinki in the south to Tornio in the north, enabling hydrogen-powered transportation across Finland and into Sweden.
Vireon emphasizes working with various technology providers to ensure the best solutions for each project. They are also technology-agnostic when it comes to hydrogen storage, currently using Hexagon Purus trailers but open to other options. Vireon's project represents a significant step towards establishing hydrogen infrastructure in Finland. The four stations will create a crucial corridor for clean transportation and pave the way for synergistic hydrogen development in the country.
