MBC backs renewal of Meralco franchise

THE Makati Business Club has joined other business groups in calling for the renewal of Manila Electric Co.'s 25-year franchise, citing the importance of stable electricity for businesses in key economic areas.MBC said in a statement on Tuesday that the franchise renewal would ensure reliable and accessible electricity for households and businesses.

The group also called for a provision prioritizing reliable energy to attract investments.'We therefore endorse the renewal of Meralco's energy franchise, while also recognizing the need for targeted adjustments where necessary,' the MBC continued.The business group said that granting Meralco's franchise renewal bid was aligned with the government's goal of enhancing energy security, resilience, and sustainability — also key advocacies of MBC.
