Seven energy-saving tips to help cut fuel bills before next price cap in October

Energy bills are now at their lowest for the first time in two years after Ofgem lowered the price cap from £1,690 for a typical dual fuel household to £1,568 - a fall of £122 over the course of a year. This is around £500 less than the cap in July last year, when it was £2,074.

Merely being plugged in causes the wiring to generate heat which can increase the energy bill but you can minimise this by simply unplugging electronics that are not in use. For convenience, consider investing in a standby saver or smart plug, which allows you to turn off multiple appliances simultaneously.
