Energy bills are at their lowest point in two years, but set to rise again at the start of October.

Energy bills are now at their lowest for the first time in two years after Ofgem lowered the price cap from £1,690 for a typical dual fuel household to £1,568 - a fall of £122 over the course of a year. This is around £500 less than the cap in July last year, when it was £2,074.

He explained: “At one point, when summer came around, the cost of energy would be less of a distressing thought for Brits as we could simply turn off the heating to save. Additionally, walls that face south and west receive the most intense heat from the sun, so it is particularly important to make sure curtains or blinds cover these windows and they remain closed during the day.”

Switch off standby appliances Andrai explained: “Leaving appliances on standby can consume a significant amount of energy. Merely being plugged in causes the wiring to generate heat which can increase the energy bill but you can minimise this by simply unplugging electronics that are not in use. For convenience, consider investing in a standby saver or smart plug, which allows you to turn off multiple appliances simultaneously.
