BYD's record car sales in 2023 were still second to Volkswagen in China. With hybrid vehicles, BYD will challenge VW head-on this year.

Warren Buffett-backed car manufacturer BYD has unveiled two hybrid cars with a 1,300-mile range in a bid to challenge Volkswagen and Toyota’s dominance in Chinese markets. With these options, the company wants to be the top choice for potential car owners, even in the non-electric-vehicle segment. has previously reported how BYD’s recent price cuts intend to keep it ahead of other EV makers and are aimed to help it flood the European markets.

The battery pack’s contribution to this extended range is minimal; it delivers under 50 miles of driving range. Where BYD has pulled off a surprise is the fuel consumption of just 0.76 gallons for 60 miles , the That these cars are aimed to take on Volkswagen and Toyota is evident in the fact that they are priced at 99,800 yuan , whereas VW’s Sagitar and Toyota’s Corolla are available at 127,900 yuan and 116,800 yuan respectively.and bringing in a record net profit of 30 billion yuan .
