In partnership with the Black River Audubon Society, the Avon Lake Public Library recently installed a Motus Wildlife Tracking System tower on the roof of the library, 32649 Electric Blvd.

According to library officials, the tower is part of a greater and expansive network of other towers from Canada to Argentina, that tracks bird migration and movement.

After the Black River Audubon Society Board approved pursuing the project, Swindel reached out to library officials to ask if they would be interested in allowing a tower to be installed. Avon residents only are invited to Splash into Summer at the Avon Aquatic Facility from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for a free swim party. The pool officially opens to the community on May 30. For more information on the pool, go toJoin Thomas Becker, agriculture and natural resources educator for OSU Extension Lorain County, to learn about your impact on the environment and how to try and transform your property to be more wildlife friendly during a presentation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The city appropriated $550,000 this year for street paving materials. The streets on the list include: Aurensen Road, Barres Road, Cadet Drive, Glen Drive, Laurel Circle, Manning Circle, Meadow Creek Oval, Noll Drive, Shady Drive, and Sugar Ridge Road .
