Energy Minister Chris Bowen has admitted the nation’s climate policies will “take a while to work”, as he hit back at Opposition leader Peter Dutton's pledge to scrap Labor's emissions reduction target at the federal election.

Chris Bowen admits climate policies will ‘take a while to work’ after Peter Dutton vows to ditch Labor's 2030 emissions target if the Coalition is elected

Mr Dutton said Labor has “no hope” of achieving its targets, saying there’s “no sense signing up to targets you don’t have any prospect of achieving”. Mr Bowen said on Tuesday he believed"with quite a degree of confidence" Australia would meet its climate targets. He said the latest forecast in December showed emissions would be cut by 42 per cent, “and very much within striking distance of 43 per cent”, if the policies Labor had outlined were implemented.
