Police have issued a statement following reports on social media that a man spoke to children in a park and 'offered them Prime energy drinks'.
South Ribble Police said they were made away of the alleged incident in the Withy Grove Park area of Bamber Bridge which has sparked concern from members of the public over the 'potentially sinister intentions behind this behaviour'. Officers said they 'take all reports of this nature seriously' and increased patrols in the area.
The force has since conducted a 'thorough investigation' into the validity of the reports and say they are 'now satisfied that no criminal offences took place'. Police have urged the public not to 'engage in the spreading of unsubstantiated rumours or unhelpful speculation' as it can 'can lead to unnecessary upset and fear'.
"Following this incident, we carried out a thorough investigation into the matter and we are now satisfied that no criminal offences took place. We understand that this speculation has left people feeling concerned and we have had an increased policing presence in the area to reassure the local community that we take those concerns seriously.
"We would ask that people don’t engage in the spreading of unsubstantiated rumours or unhelpful speculation, particularly on social media, as it can lead to unnecessary upset and fear. If you have witnessed or are aware of any criminal activity call 101. In an emergency always call 999."
