Steven Miles' hydro renewable energy project could wind up costing Queenslanders more than three times what a new stadium would have cost.

Queensland Premier Steven Miles has knocked back suggestions to use more taxpayer dollars to fund a new stadium for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, and instead focused his sights on a renewable project.

"I think we can upgrade the Gabba, deliver a suitable stadium for those sports, without needing to take billions of dollars," Miles said.The Premier insisted on his plan to upgrade existing stadiums.
