People walk in a flooded St. Mark's Square in Venice, Italy, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019. The high tide reached a peak of 127cm at 10:35am while an even higher level of 140cm was predicted for later Tuesday evening.
The high-water mark hit 187 centimeters late Tuesday, meaning more than 85% of the city was flooded. The highest level ever recorded was 194 centimeters during infamous flooding in 1966. Photos on social media showed a city ferry, taxi boats and gondolas grounded on walkways flanking canals. Already on Tuesday, much of the city was under water, inundating the famed St. Mark’s Basilica and raising anew concerns over damage to the mosaics and other artworks.Venice’s Mayor Luigi Brugnaro blamed climate change for the “dramatic situation” and called for a speedy completion of a long-delayed project to construct off-shore barriers.
These stories don’t seem to mention that Venice has sunk by almost a foot in the last century due to poor unrepaired drainage, industrial projects, and increased population & unsustainable tourism, thus higher water usage from depletion of the water table & sediment disruption.
FakeNews I was in Venice in late .80s Couldn't walk through s,t marks due to high water. Climate BS
Many Prayers.
Fake News!
Venice has been sinking for years! People need to go visit before it goes completely under!
So climate change flooded it in 1968 ?
Everybody glossing over 1965 pretty sure global warming wasnt a thing. How did that flood like that then?

Venice is choking due to GlobalWarming. We need to hold those that cause it accountable. Time to end with the polluting FossilFuel industry and the age of oil 👉 ClimateChange ClimateAction
The high water mark was made 63 years ago. I wonder, what was the worries of climate change during that flooding ?
With sea levels rising you’ll need a submarine to tour Venice.
Climate change?!?How about broken pumps?!?
What did they attribute the 1966 levels too?
Was it climate change in 1966 too?
It’s a beautiful place. 👍But nothing new really. (There’s a bit of a local issue trying to get subsidies methinks).
They’re just expanding the gondola route
I think you barely missed the flooding DumbbellsnDrama
This will be the norm in 20 years.
