A war of words has erupted over whether the bushfire crisis is linked to climate change.

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said those views were being put forward by "raving inner-city lunatics" but the

Greens hit back, arguing the government "bears some responsibility" for the catastrophic fires. Image: News Corp Australia

Everyone agrees there's Climate Chg but the artcle agrees its been happening even back to the Vikings ... add in a few Ice Ages. What the artcle doesn't say is what we do today, or wot the Vikings did years ago to cause it. CC happens, but its not made by man.

Yeah, let’s argue instead of actually doing something to help!

Instead of fighting and pointing fingers at each other... why dont they unite and come up with a plan for the current national tragedy and also plans to reduce risks of bushfire tragedies

Deal with the bush fire 1st, plenty of time later to talk about climate change.

What dickheads. Let's get over the event first! Oh, and listen to Jacinda Adhern's recent speech..

Oh please. This is getting stupid.

The useless LNP bickers and quibbles as Australia burns. 😡

For you politicians instead of uniting, to use this disaster to gain points is utterly disgusting; seriously you should just resign. Unfit for office

A balanced article from ABC website. Says it all.

It is linked to climate change driven by India, China, USA. Let's vent in the right direction please.

Focus in the task at hand but commit to some bipartisan root cause analysis as soon as it’s over. There is no magic panacea for this issue. I’m sure we all agree, Australia is lacking resilience on issues of water and fire. Making us more resilient requires 20-50 year vision.

Not a scientist so won't argue either way. I will say that it's rather stupid to cut budget to Harvard reduction burning. We should be spending more not less.

What does the science actually say around Bushfires and ClimateChange? Read our Q&A on the science of climate change, published four years ago:

How can bustfires be linked to a propaganda narrative from the social engineering agenda of Globalist Marxism? Bushfires = Fuel load, the fuel's relative moisture, the wind velocity and it's relative humidity and an ignition source. Biggest kicker is what there is to burn, FUEL.

Climate has been changing for millions of years, will continue to change, bushfires have been happening for millions of years and will continue, saying these bushfires are related to climate change is just a lot of rot

Bushfires are so bad because of a lack of hazard control. Thank you Greens

Reduce undergrowth, reduce fires. That is what burns.

Can I please have a chance to explain clearly what is good and bad, right and wrong to everyone..? And make the world peace and more beautiful for everyone in the world, life is very expensive, we can not keep letting people die for no reason like this everyday please......!

We already know it's linked to climate change. We have gone beyond that now. Coalition just trying to protect their coal mates.

Not much of a ‘war’ when one side has 95% of the population saying it does and the other side saying it doesn’t has 5%. That little Barney going to be over before it started.

Pointless debate. There ought to be a focus on how mass of fire can be halted. A return to indigenous land management under guidance of indigenous people, with a full stop to developments such as Adani'd, logging & other activities which dry out the land & destroy water sources.

1896-1903 Australia had the same conditions as today. Sheep 19m down 7m, cattle similar decline. Farmers walking off, severe drought conditions & bush fires. Historical Fact. Climate Change is continual, there is NO EMERGENCY, just Nature’s REPETITION.

Anyone using it for politics is shameful

Me thinks the man protests too much....

Not one drop of rain fell yesterday for first time recorded weather 🇦🇺

Yes of course bushfires are linked to climate change, when spring turns to summer there is a great risk of fire. It’s been this way forever. But overall climate change is caused by where the earth is in respect to the planets and sun !!!

So whats the cold linked to in the USA

The stupidity never stop. PEOPLE ARE THE PROBLEM. The country will ALWAYS have some fires. It's our history. Are you all really that ignorant.?

Can’t you just discuss how to quickly coordinate Services,to get these Fire Affected Families into Housing/accommodation

And, of course, the toileteers at happily barrack for, and spruik the ignorance of, M_McCormackMP and his fellow climate-change deniers. One of the huge barriers to Australia actually doing anything is those charlatans manning the Murdoch barricades.

He’s a homophobic anti science arse. That’s our Deputy PM Lunatic Auspol

Climate protests stop due to arrests then fires start all along the coast. These fires were deliberately lit. Wake up people

science VS the coalition defending the coal industry against the Australian people

THE FIRES WERE OBVIOUSLY DELIBERATELY LIT. I BELIEVE EXTINCTION REBELLION ACTIVISTS IS TO BLAME FOR THIS.

If the science proving a link existed, the woke left would be emailing the reports to every scribe on the planet. The point is that the science doesn’t prove any link, so the woke left keeps shouting more loudly.

We do realise that a massive portion of all fires are started as back burns which get out of control. National Parks are famous for the amount they light which goes pair shape. Not to mention the animals they kill.

It’s most likely related to a severe 4 year drought that has left NE Australia tinder dry like every other devastating drought that has beset our country since time immemorial. In fact our huge inland sea dried up a few thousand years ago but meh, what do facts matter...

85% of fires are started by humans.. With the proven and self confessed extreme actions of activists on climate change... Should there now be an investigation into who is starting these fires and could it be another extreme attempt from the greens to strengthen their cause?

But in M_McCormackMP case it's in reverse

Not once in past really bad bushfires was climate change mentioned also where are the Greens who should be helping the injured animals or out there helping

This is so stupid. I guess this is what you get when you have The Greens involved in any argument. Is arson climate change? Honest question.

2 different issues: 1. Can fires be linked to climate change - Debatable 2. Could Australian Govt policy have prevented them - No

People need to calm down, take a stress pill and do what they can to assist our brave emergency services fight these bush fires. After the fires are put out, then people can sit down and have a discussion on what caused the intensity of these fires and what to do in future.

how stupid are our MPs? I know in Queensland we seem to breed incompetence and stupidity but I thought there might be a chance of normality in the rest of

Not really, it's a refusal to enter into a political policy debate by.....politicians. hmmm I though it was their mandate? Oh, and scientists are not consulted on questions of.....science. apparently this is acceptable to citizens?

Yep just words....do us all a favour & do something meaningful.

My money is on not climate change but bad governance as described below.

In the mean time the country continues to burn, people have lost and are continuing to lose homes, and as for the suffering throughout rural Australia never mind...

The intensity of the fires appears to be a consequence of a failure to adequately conduct hazard reduction. Let’s not get caught up in cheap opportunism

Its NOT a political question, its a SCIENTIFIC issue. The political issue is how the SCIENCE is being ignored for political & commercial expedience.

It's not really a war as much as it is simply calling out the Greens for being a bunch on Ok Doomers.

A one-stop shop Too Hot = Human Induced Climate Change Too Cold = Human Induced Climate Change Too Wet = Human Induced Climate Change Too Dry = Human Induced Climate Change

XWHY DID THE LNP CUT MILLIONS FROM FIRE SERVICES WHEN WE HAVE ALL BEEN WARNED CLIMATE CHANGE WILL MAKE FIRES WORSE

Actions speak louder than words. Another tainted screeching politician that taxpayers are paying
