SINGAPORE: Electric scooter users who try to circumvent the new footpath ban by riding on the grass alongside sidewalks could face a fine of up to S$5,000.
The National Parks Board told CNA on Wednesday that under the Parks and Trees Act, it is an offence to ride personal mobility devices along the green verges without permission.E-scooter users who do so risk damaging the turf, which can lead to soil erosion. The uneven ground is also not safe to ride on, said Ms Kartini Omar, group director of parks development at NParks.
NParks' statement comes after several videos were uploaded on social media showing PMD users riding on the grass next to footpaths.
Might as well ban PMDs totally. Can’t ride them on grass can’t ride them on the sidewalks. Hazardous to automobiles on roads and since our roads have no Bicycle/PMD lanes, might as well ban them altogether. There goes the hope for fossil fuel free personal transport
When you don’t educate people on basic courtesy, respect nature & the environment = Selfish uncivilised civilians. 1 too many Gov. campaigns have failed as it seems people require 24/7 handholding in Singapore. No wonder the no. of surveillance cameras across the police state. 🌱
Guess what happens when you don’t educate people about respecting grass, grassland & nature = Selfish uncivilised civilians. Also one too many failed campaigns when it seems these people require 24/7 hand-holding. No wonder the no. of surveillance cameras across the police state.
Doesn't Singapore have bigger problems to deal with?
