E-scooters to be banned on Singapore's footpaths from Nov 5; offenders to face fines, jail time Parliament

SINGAPORE: The use of electric scooters will be banned on footpaths in Singapore from Tuesday , with offenders facing fines and jail time once the ban is strictly enforced starting next year.

There will be an advisory period until Dec 31 to allow e-scooter riders time to adjust, Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min said in Parliament on Monday."From Jan 1, 2020, we will carry out strict enforcement, and those caught riding an e-scooter on footpaths will be liable for a fine up to S$2,000 and/or jail up to three months," he said.

In October, the Land Transport Authority announced that all e-scooters will have to undergo an inspection every two years to ensure that they comply with the criteria for use on public paths.AdvertisementE-scooter users who fail to send their devices for inspection could face fines of up to S$1,000 and up to three months' jail.

PMD bengs

Smart cities require a framework to manage risks that arise out of new technology and innovation. Larger cities have been successful in adapting escooters. Tech hub aspirations and no appetite for real solutions.

Are you tired of poverty, will you love to make millions of dollar in a month Just chat me up /DM me I will teach you how make money from forex trade

2/2. Motor vehicles cover long distances - Changi to Jurong on PMDs? Please - and cannot realistically be replaced by PMDs. Dedicated paths are ideal but we lack space. But please stop with the dumb “why not ban cars too” argument.

To those making the argument, “Ban cars too since they’re dangerous as well”: 1. Motorists expect danger on the roads and behave accordingly. Are you saying pedestrians should expect 50km/h PMDs at any time? If so, justify that stance; and 1/2

Just because of few black sheep 🐑

No use if yall say about banning pmd, how bout ebikes?! Yall say ban end up give of catching them hahahahahha

Don't understand if you want just ban it start this type if stupid law why. There both foot path why dont just let ppl walk on oneside than bicycle, pmd, electric bike on the opposite side than settle it. If wrongly used than fine if caught. Cause you dont have all cycling path

What about plastics

Wow this is gonna hurt a lot of my colleagues

GG

Heavy-handed.

This is stupid honestly

🦀🦀🦀🦀

I am a careful rider, my use to this pmd is to earn my daily pocket money for me to go to school and etc, The delivery job is so flexible as i can go school and work after that without booking any slots via Grab delivery. My apologies if my pmd is part of your dislike and hate.

which also means less grabfood, foodpanda etc pep delivering food to u

so tat means go on the road

Let's go!!

This is happening tomorrow?! Serious?! Please take it out on the modders who zooms past me on a daily basis and once even almost colliding with me and my son on our way to my in laws. DM me, I'll let you know where to look.

So many people rely on scooters to get around/commute to work/take kids to school. Surely enforcing new rules & continuing to build more suitable infrastructure would be better than an out-right ban? There are bad car drivers but that doesn’t mean all cars should be banned...

wait, so what do we do when we reach the end of a park connector? walk with the scooter until we find another park connector or bicycle path?!

MTI_Sg LTAsg - Why exempt bicycle paths and the PCN? Most of which are made up of shared pathways where this inconsiderate behaviour can continue to manifest. I just don't get it.

I take my e-scooter to work everyday to and fro. I send my son to my in-laws in it. As much as I've seen bad apples ruining a good thing for the regular folks, sometimes i find myself wishing theres a 'bicycle path' that I can ride on rather than hinder pedestrians way

“Footpaths” are not roads. And they are built for not more than 2 person traffic. And given Singaporeans lack of road courtesy & consideration footpaths have been a nightmare for the elderly. To allow PMDs there need to be new paths, new laws to manage rude irresponsible users.

We are not ready for PMDs, not by a mile. Our people needs to be further educated on using it safely.. its good to ban it on footpaths

This is why we can’t have nice things. If PMD riders give way and understand that pedestrians come first, then this would’ve ended differently. PMD and Bicycles aren’t above pedestrians. Be gracious, give way, and say excuse me and thanks. It’s not hard 😑

Like that mean footpath cannot, road cannot 🤔🤔🤔 oh i know scooter can carried cannot ride mean grab food also cannot sent food. So problematic for what just ban the whole dam thing.

oh no what abt foodpanda all those ppl tho

finally!!

Consumers brought this upon themselves but i do wish the authorities explored tighter regulations first instead of an outright ban. My aging dad walks a lot everyday and I thought an E-scooter could've eased the burden on his legs, that's out the window now.
