The Trump administration turned its deregulatory focus Wednesday to light bulbs, scrapping a rule that would have phased out less energy efficient incandescent bulbs.
President Donald Trump told reporters Wednesday the Energy Department canceled the pending phaseout of the targeted incandescent bulbs because"what's saved is not worth it."The Energy Department announced the action ahead of the revision's publication in the Federal Register, a step toward a rule becoming final.
The administration said the more efficient bulbs would cost consumers more to buy than they would save on their electric bills. Environmental groups challenged the claim.
But if they use less electricity, then don't they last longer and cut down on your electric bill? Sounds like they save consumers a lot of money.
My house has 90% LED lights they last a lot longer and use much less energy. Guess Trump has energy stock and is afraid he might loose money if people use less. Or is it going to cost him money in the long run if there are mandates to use energy efficient products in bldgs?

The administration is right. The Obama regs were a huge rent-seeking gift to GE, a major maker of bulbs. They eliminated cheaper bulbs, sticking consumers with high priced LEDs.

My wife and I purchased some energy efficient bulbs for the new house. A little costlier in the beginning, sure. Save a little over time by buying fewer bulbs.
