This tree has been around since the Greeks invented democracy, but researchers warn the effects of climate change could now see it go extinct.

The rare Huon pine, which has existed on Earth for thousands of years, could go extinct due to the effects of climate change, experts warn.Experts fear in 50 to 100 years the tree could go extinctHuon pines are the oldest living trees in Australia and the second oldest in the world — only the North American bristle cone lives longer.

Huon pines can live for 3,000 years, meaning some were seedlings before the Greeks invented democracy and well before Julius Caesar was born. Professor Tim Broadribb from the University of Tasmania is one of those concerned about what carbon dioxide emissions could mean for the giant tree. "If the emissions continue to rise as they are at the moment, then this species [Huon pine] and a lot of species in Tasmania will be extinct in 100 years for sure," he said.Professor Broadribb recently visited a Huon pine forest on Tasmania's West Coast with University of Melbourne scientist Kathy Allen.

More BS from Can I opt out of contributing to ABC when paying tax?

What do the experts from the Institute of Foresters of Australia think? Tough for the ABC to seek expert scientific opinion I know but you really should ask.

Gotta love the climate change “ science” . There’s always a “ could “ involved . Just completely false science .

ABC have dropped the ball on natural history. The hostility, apathy, ignorance and slobbery in these tweets is where we're at, what are you, our public broadcaster going to do about it?

What a load of rubbish, the climate has varied more over the last 3000 years than it has since the industrial revolution

All species, even us, have to adapt or perish. It's how it's always been and always will be.

What a load of BS, there was just as much heat during periods in the recent past that were actually recorded!

What a load of BS

Climate has changed for the last 3000 years and the trees are still here.

'Professor Tim Broadribb from the University of Tasmania is one of those concerned about what carbon dioxide emissions could mean for the giant tree.' Yeah, God forbid if the trees were actually to get um..greener. Just listened to yourselves and your shameless lies.
