The temperature is set to drop to -1.5 degrees Celsius, so mum Lisa has resorted to burning firewood to keep warm."It's a small bag with a few logs in it. It will probably [last us] one night.""For electricity I pay $45 a fortnight and I've got $334 outstanding.
The irony is that they live in a renewable energy hotspot, where wind and solar farms are supplying energy to the entire electricity grid for next to nothing."We have lots of resources that are sitting in Queensland, that we can use in Victoria. What we're missing is transmission," she said. Billions of dollars are currently being spent on upgrading the transmission system in regional Victoria and New South Wales, and massive new interconnectors to transfer electricity between states are also under construction.
Energy is best produced locally. Rooftops and pergolas are the best way forward for energy.
Another total Furphy put out by the energy companies and the Govt to keep the gravy train of high prices, royalties and GST rolling along. The BS of high prices to support replacement of infrastructure has now been applied to renewables to explain why their prices are so high.

Such garbage
Crap
Story is a beat up con job. A load of rubbish. If renewables so cheap, why do we need to subsidise them to the extent we do. Renewables don’t deliver because they are unreliable. Wait for summer. Renewables looking for an excuse for their unreliability.
No they’re not.
More excuses than the Catholic church...
Finally some one has come out and told the public about this issue. Its been around a long time.
How could that be true. We are paying for gold plated network already
Yes, the grid costs are part of the cost of using renewables, which make them unviable for the bulk of our needs when those extra costs are factored in. Only some form of nuclear is viable and sustainable, these guys think fission, but I say fusion is.
'renewable energy boom' Can't say I've heard that one before. Is the 'boom' when the whole thing blows up in your face?
If every household had solar, wind and battery storage as well as a small gas fired backup generator we wouldn’t need powerlines.
6 years of LNP Gov... 11 failed energy policies & still no policy. It's the LNP holding us back. How's it working out Australia listening to these people who play politics with our energy and ignore the Experts? auspol
Is this the NBN roll out debacle all over again?
Whatever happened to Gillard's 'gold-plated poles and wires'?
