The 2nd-generation Nissan Leaf was teased to the Malaysian market during last year’s KL International Motor Show, and the pure electric vehicle has just been officially launched in Malaysia. The CBU Japan-made Leaf won’t be eligible for for Energy Efficient Vehicle incentives, but will still qualify for import tax exemption. This means that the one “Premium” model will go for RM188,888 for its on-the-road price, without insurance.
As for what’s under the hood, the Leaf’s 40kWh lithium-ion battery gives it a range of 311km on a full-charge, while it has a respectable 0-100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds thanks to an EM57 electric motor that drives the front wheels at 150PS and 320Nm of torque . In case you’re thinking of breaking land speed records with the admittedly sporty-looking electric hatch, the Leaf’s top-speed is electronically limited to 155km/h.Charging the Leaf’s 350-volt battery can be done in a few ways.
If you charge the car through its CHAdeMO port , you can get the Leaf fully-charged in just an hour, as well. Several DC charging stations have already been set up: ABB Malaysia , Nichicon and PLUS . You can also opt to charge the Leaf at any of Nissan’s 17 dealerships via the same 6.6kW AC wallbox, but plugging in at public EV charging stations, you’ll need to use a Type 2 to Type 1 adaptor—Nissans says that an adaptor accessory should become available here soon.
