New Delhi Hyundai just unveiled India's most powerful electric car and plans to build a network to charge it too.
The South Korean carmaker launched its first electric vehicle for the Indian market, the Hyundai Kona Electric, in New Delhi on Tuesday. The battery-powered SUV can go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.7 seconds and travel 452 kilometers on a single charge, the company said. It will cost around 2.5 million rupees .
"[We] envision India as a global hub of manufacturing electric vehicles," Sitharaman said in her speech. Hyundai is currently India's No.2 carmaker behind Indian joint venture Maruti Suzuki. It will now become the second company to sell electric cars in the country, after local rival Mahindra. But Mahindra's top electric car, the E20 Plus, is far less powerful, with a top speed of just 50 miles an hour and a maximum range of 87 miles on a single charge.
Car batteries is going to be hard on the grid! How many charging areas are there going to be? Hardships on batteries due to cold winters? How long do these batteries last? Will eventually land in landfills so how is this going to effect the environment?
100 k is about 57 mph that’s slower than a grub worm it’s the perfect POS car for anyone dumb enough to buy it
So what?
And it only takes 3 days to charge it! Uh nope
And my phone used to hold a charge for 3 days. But after 2 years use the battery doesn’t last long enough to order a pizza. I wonder if that 281 mile range will be 2 blocks after a couple of years use?
Why is it important for a car to accelerate to quickly? Does this feed into a hyper masculine society? Except for highway driving, 100k/m is illegal.
57 minutes to charge battery 80%.... pretty impressive...
