about the other debaters on the stage , the usually chatty politician drew a blank. “Um, I think that…” she began, trailing off before offering these words of advice: “Sometimes you’re an underdog until you’re not!”who broke out in Spanish more than once during the debate—which led to him being mocked on Twitter for avoiding answers to questions in not one, but two languages. “It was humorous at times,” AOC said, noting that the use of Spanish onstage came off as a dodge.

For all her subtle digs and overt praise, AOC also had some gripes with the overall debate, saying that because the stage was so big, it could kind of feel “like a high school classroom. There are some folks that didn’t seem like they read the book. And then they got called on.” In addition, the congresswoman, a cosponsor of the Green New Deal, said there was not enough discussion of climate change, agreeing with those who have said there should be a climate-only debate.
