Phumzile Tshelane has been notified of his removal from the nuclear corporation’s top job but says he is appealing the findings of a disciplinary panel

Former Necsa CEO Phumzile Tshelane says he has launched appeal against findings of disciplinary panelEnergy minister Jeff Radebe has fired Phumzile Tshelane from his position as CEO and board member of the SA Nuclear Energy Corporation .

Tshelane said he was formally notified of his removal on Sunday and on Tuesday launched an appeal against the findings of the disciplinary panel over procedural issues. At the weekend, City Press reported that Tshelane had been found guilty of four charges of misconduct. These reportedly include the signing of a nuclear co-operation agreement with Rusatom Healthcare, a subsidiary of Russian nuclear agency Rosatom, despite the minister’s express instructions not to do so; spending R500,000 on a golf day when Necsa could not afford to pay salaries; and unlawfully appointing a board member and paying him a monthly retainer.

Radebe previously said that a key reason for removing the Necsa board was the poor governance that had led to Necsa subsidiary, NTP Radioisotopes – which supplies medical isotopes used in the treatment of cancer globally – being shut down for a year over a safety scare. Necsa chair Kelvin Kemm was fired over allegations of gross misconduct. These included his role in the signing of the memorandum with Rusatom Healthcare.

Excellent. But it's time for Radebe to go too. He has been a minister since 1999. Oh! Forgotten. Family ties. Same old shit!

R14bn in SA money blown Most likely a failure because big oil companies did not snatch it up. Project likely to fail and then ANC will say we were misled. Is money paid on receipt of crude or in advance . Methinks in advance with substantial commisions. A basic business mistake ? Is Shanduka or any if the Motsepe/Radebe family businesses involved?
