With all eyes on climate change ahead of the election, the famed naturalist has joined the the campaign to protect an unlikely climate defence mechanism.

With all eyes on climate change ahead of the federal election next week, Sir David Attenborough has lent his support to a campaign to protect an unlikely climate defence mechanism: sharks.

Mr Deschamps said the publicity had helped the Shark Ark conservation group's campaign, which at first fell on deaf ears until he began sharing the economical impacts of inaction on the tourism and fishing industries. "We're not hippies, we're not left-wing nut jobs, we are farmers, fisherman, hunters, 4WD-ers, and we are a big part in Shark Bay of the $2.4 billion recreational fishing industry in Western Australia."He said shark beach fishing was harming Monkey Mia's dolphin family, which was a major contributor to the area's $100 million tourism industry, by luring sharks into shallow waters where they attacked dolphins.

In the state's southern region, tiger sharks above a certain size are protected, and cannot be recreationally fished.

Honesty if Sir David Attenborough told me to jump up and down till i passed out i would I believe EVERYBODY should do anything he says Luckily he would never abuse this power

Trophy killing marine animals is just as narcissistic as the tiger/ elephant safaris of the previous century. Oops, make that the 21st century; it's still going on🙄. Those macabre n/paper pics of a child proudly displaying their 'kill', of an 80yr old shark; not a good look.

Thank you for the support. I hope voice reaches the necessary ears DavidAttenborough shark

Loved his documentaries growing up and definitely with him on this one.
