Ahead of Trudeau meeting, Kenney warns of a constitutional crisis if Ottawa’s environmental-protection bill is not amended GlobePolitics

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, second from left, speaks with Minister of Natural Resources Amarjeet Sohi and Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna, second from right, during a break at the Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources about Bill C-69 at the Senate of Canada Building on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Thursday, May 2, 2019.

Mr. Lougheed once described the NEP as akin to the federal government “simply walking into our homes and occupying the living room,” Mr. Kenney recalled. “That is exactly how I would describe Bill C-69.”Unless the government accepts major amendments, Mr. Kenney said Alberta will challenge Bill C-69 in court. The premier also attacked environmental groups that accept some foreign funding and have sought to “strangle” the province’s key industry by blocking pipelines.

Mr. Kenney accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who he will meet with later Thursday, of working with the environmental lobby to block pipeline projects and thwart the oil industry’s effort to expand its exports. He blamed those policies for the industry’s ongoing challenges, saying Canada’s oil industry is losing investment to the United States.

Just two days into the job, Mr. Kenney has brought a more combative approach to his province’s efforts to secure new pipeline capacity for its crude exports and to head off federal regulations that industry leaders argue will cripple investment.Story continues below advertisement

globepolitics jkenney keep going, if Quebec can get everything they want, including $11B in transfer, Alberta should get a pipeline to both coasts.

globepolitics She should seize this opportunity to kick him in the balls

globepolitics the NEP would have given Alberta the funds to transition to a climate friendly industry today, but oh no they had another idea, let's give all the profits to foreign oil companies while we will take all the clean up costs

globepolitics Have all those who accepted money and support from the foreign organizations that have tried to destroy Canada's economy charged with economic sabotage and terrorism Most of the opposition to Alberta's oil industry would be gone overnight Sadly Canada is being led by cowards

globepolitics Right out of fords playbook. Showing disdain for Trudeau. No integrity. No character. No respect. That’s what Alberta will be getting.

globepolitics Finally an Alberta leader with brains and backbone.

globepolitics Another Stephen Harper blow hard. Slither back to Alberta where the provincial pastime is blaming everything on central Canada and the federal government. Grow up & take responsibility!

globepolitics Sadly when is Canada not in some sort of Constitutional crisis? Come on Jason, learn to play with others. It is one nation with many different parts. Work together!!

globepolitics Two days in power and already an embarrassment, which folks in Ottawa should know only too well.
