“It won’t have a negative effect on economic growth,” he told Leigh Sales. “In fact, most of the mainstream modelling shows that our economy will continue to grow.”He said not taking action on climate change would have a significant higher cost in the long-term than Labor’s initial investments.
Bill Shorten has faced questions for two weeks over the economic cost of his climate policy. Picture: AAPMinister for Energy Angus Taylor says Labor’s plan will ‘wreck the economy’. Picture: AAPLabor has refuted the modelling presented by Dr Fisher and points to analysis by Citibank that concludes “the consequences in terms of cost of policies like ours are immaterial”.
“The Australian people and business are so far ahead of the political debate, you must be bored by the government’s rhetoric, which wants to simply say we can’t do this, can’t do that. The rest of the world is so far ahead of us it’s embarrassing.” Dr Fisher’s modelling relies on a quarter of the emissions reductions being achieved by allowing big companies to buy international carbon credits to offset their pollution.
Until the many new companies come in to make profit on the back of a proper climate policy, then, millions will generate back into the economy. Another 'nothings changed' policy report.
Seriously I can spend money much better than this guy especially when it is not my money and there is no consequences for all the stuff ups he WILL do !
How much was the economist paid to say that..and who paid..the LNP or their greedy donors
And the cost if at do nothing in 20 to 30 years. It needs to be done.
When climate change comes, there will be no economy. Only desert. You are inflicting this on your own grandchildren. Do you hate the world that much?
Let's see, Labor is going to cost voters millions, maybe billions Labor is going tax retirees into the poorhouse Labor is going cost workers jobs In fact he is the devil incarnate sure...
What a load of crap

Is this the Fisher report? It has been decimated by other experts
Not doing anything could cost the planet. Stop publishing this bullshit.
Any notion the economist is linked with an industry is laughable. Other economists have put the figure closer to $500b because of the ambiguity in the policies themselves. The EV tax is unknown and carbon tax MkII needs clarity.
The economist is incorrect
By 2030 !!!! Who can accurately predict this figure ? Nobody, that's who.
An economist paid by whom Of course the coal industry
Is the economists name peter Dutton by any chance
ANTICOM_Aus Easiest way for labor to discredit this report is to release their own modelling instead of claiming the report is wrong. End the speculation and release your modelling, labor. Simple.
That's like 1% of the total population.... That's nothing.... suck it up and find a new job. The planet and the environment is more important. SorryNotSorry
Bill Shorten along with most of the ALP is a Fabian Society lackey out to turn Australia into a socialist dystopia
ANTICOM_Aus Just a few big Macs yeah
Shorten’s Union mates will love that!
What base line is he using. I'd like to see his calculations based on doing nothing with factoring of effects of climate change and international technology change.
Totally credible study by fossil fuel lobbyist Fisher.
Good Job, mate! :p
Again I call BS
Sorry simonahac but I might have to tag you whenever this bs story comes up in my feed.
So coal energy modelling suggests that they will lose $264 billion? Does that include Rupert Murdoch or just coal bosses? Time Australia caught up to 21st Century. We need to deal with emissions now or there will be nothing left for future generations.
Where were you when the LNP IPA destroyed 3 million jobs?
