Newly appointed deputy Electricity and Energy minister, Samantha Graham-Mare has said she will ensure Eskom accountability going forward.

President Cyril Rhamaposa appointed a new deputy minister, the DA’s Samantha Graham-Maré, to Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa as part of his cabinet announcement.

This portfolio has become of great importance since its creation, given the load-shedding crisis South Africa has experienced over the past fifteen years. Graham-Maré began her political journey by joining the DA in 2007. However, she only became an active member two years later when she moved to Aberdeen in the Eastern Cape.

“I am very active in the Party as I serve on the Eastern Cape Provincial Council and the Provincial Disciplinary Committee,” she told Her first position in Parliament was shadow deputy minister of public works and infrastructure, which Mmusi Maimane assigned to her in June 2019. That same year, the DA appointed her as its constituency leader of the Dr Beyers Naude municipality.
